About Hummingbird ASF

Doctor, fire fighter, band administrator, marine biologist, mechanic, engineer, carpenter, treaty negotiator, police officer, landscape gardener, health administrator, lands manager, lawyer, accountant, preschool teacher…what does your child want to grow up to be?

We know that an education after high school can help our children follow their dreams and realize their full potential. We also know the Aboriginal post-secondary education support funding sometimes isn’t enough. The funds available are not getting any larger even though our Aboriginal youth population is growing at six times the national average. There is a way to have extra dollars for your child’s post-secondary education needs, and it’s easier than you think.

One way to get a head start is through a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). The federal government will contribute to the RESP just for opening the account. You don’t even have to put in your own money, but if you do, the federal government will add to it. And anyone can contribute—grandparents, extended family, caregivers or friends.

Hummingbird Aboriginal Student Futures will show you how.

By saving just $1 per week, your child could have close to $3,000 in an RESP to put toward tuition, food, transportation or rent when it comes time to enroll in post-secondary studies.

Hummingbird Aboriginal Student Futures can provide you with the information and advice you need to open an account with your bank or credit union.

We are a not-for-profit Aboriginal program based in BC. We have one purpose: to help you learn more about how you can save for your child’s education. No matter what your financial circumstances, you can save for your child’s education, and we can show you how.
